2010 Audi TT RS Roadster

Audi is once again developing a five-cylinder engine - and a very special in that. Arriving at dealerships this summer, the Audi TT RS is a turbocharged engine with 2.5 liters of gasoline direct injection, producing 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) of torque. The burning of five-cylinder Audi TT RS andalusia allows to perform extraordinary feats. In connection with permanent quattro all-wheel drive and a high-performance chassis, the engine makes the Audi TT RS compact a first-class sports car - available as a coupe or roadster.

Sports five cylinder petrol engines of a long heritage of Audi. The most famous is undoubtedly the 2.1 liters of turbocharged engine in the Audi quattro. The first version, launched in 1980, offers an impressive 147 kW (200 hp). And the Audi Sport quattro 1984, directly inspired by motor sports, he delivered a whopping 225 kW (306 hp). For 25 years, were quattro turbo and a dynamic formula for success.

Audi has used this recipe. Designed from the ground up, the five-cylinder turbo combines FSI direct fuel injection to raise the Audi TT RS for high performance sports car. The TFSI offers 250 kW (340 hp) from a displacement of 2480 cc (151.34 cu in): a production of 100.8 kW (137.1 hp) per liter.

The power-to-weight is also exceptional. In the case of the Coupé, which weighs in at a mere 1450 kilograms (3196.70 lbs), power to weight ratio is only 4.3 kg per hp. The Audi TT RS Roadster has a weight of 1510 kilograms (3328.98 lbs) and a power-weight of 4.4 kilograms per hp - thanks to its extremely lightweight aluminum body built largely on a framework of Audi Space.

The Audi TT Coupe RS rockets from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds, the Audi TT Roadster RS needs just one tenth of a second more. The maximum speed limit of 250 km / h (155.34 mph) is no more than the official figure for both versions, as an option, Audi can increase to 280 km / h (173.98 mph).

Almost more impressive is the aggressive pulling power. The maximum torque of 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) is available between 1600 and 5300 rpm. In addition, the Audi TT RS exceeded without the slightest effort. Last but not least, the engine makes the skin tingle passengers again and again thanks to its powerful and fast response, your inspiring free revving character and its unmistakable throaty exhausts, five-cylinder Audi classical music !

Compact and light: the five-cylinder TFSI

As a sports car without an engine, 2.5 liters TFSI is ultra-compact. Just 49 centimeters (19.29 inches) in length, is ideal for installation in the cross-Audi TT RS. And its weight of just 183 kilograms (403.45 pounds) also sets a record. The casing is made of Vermiculata-graphite cast iron. This material combines high technology with high strength low weight, which was otherwise used only for the big Audi TDI engines. Perfectly placed reinforcements improve loadability block. Lightweight cylinder head, piston and rod are lightweight and high strength.

The ultra-powerful five-cylinder engine is extremely fuel efficient, requiring an average of only 9.2 liters/100 km [25.57 mpg] regarding the Coupé (Roadster 9.5 l/100 km [24.76 mpg]). Switchable flaps in the intake manifold from the mixing of air in a configuration calculated. Injected at a pressure as high as 120 bar in the railway system, strongly swirling gas in the combustion chamber - which in turn cools the walls. Subsequently, this gives a compression ratio of 10.0:1, which is very high for a turbocharged engine. Both of the adjustable camshafts controlled through the channels, also improving the efficiency of loading with respect to the air-fuel mixture.

The large turbocharger generates up to 1.2 bar pressure. The heat exchanger, the air fed by the ideal of the lower end of the single frame radiator grille reduces compressed air temperature of over 80 percent at full load.

Audi TT RS when a driver pushes the button for the sports center of the tunnel, a left flap installed in the exhaust causes the exhaust noise even more robust and intense, while encouraging response from the engine. Optional sport exhaust system is available in matt black and the sound of the tube flap ornaments.

For purists: The Driveline

The Audi TT RS is the first sports car classic in the Audi RS family. Like the Audi RS4 and Audi RS6, the Audi TT RS was developed by quattro GmbH as a pure, no-machine prohibited conduct. A new six-speed manual transmission transmits the tremendous power of the engine, and allows easy and accurate thanks to a specially designed gear has particularly short shift travel. The transmission features a high efficiency ratio and a narrow spread of sportingly transmission.

The Audi TT RS features permanent quattro all-wheel drive as standard equipment. His heart is in the rear: an electronically controlled, hydraulic multi-plate clutch. If a situation requires, the clutch redirects most of the input torque of the front wheels to the rear wheels.

In milliseconds, a powerful electric pump with an accumulator in conjunction with presses of the clutch hydraulic pressure through plates. Additions to the quattro power include a constant speed set by the propeller shaft and a compact rear axle differential - both are heavy-duty components.

The quattro drivetrain gives the Audi TT RS traction, excellent stability and dynamics fascinating. Winding rural roads or some laps around a circuit to allow the handling superior to shine. The precise and sensitive direction, the instant reaction of the chassis, the neutrality at the limit of cornering grip, while exiting a curve, and - again and again - the engine power exciting each mile in an Audi TT RS exudes the distilled essence of sportsmanship.

High-tech excellence Audi: Chassis and Body

The chassis of the Audi TT RS is based on the foundation of cutting-edge of the base design of Audi TT. The four-link rear suspension, which is responsible for the longitudinal and lateral forces separately, it plays a crucial role. The electromechanical steering is very effective and the power of government is in line with vehicle speed. With aluminum in the front and steel plate in the back, the body of the innovative combination of materials gives rise to a well-balanced axle load, the distribution of collision safety and rigidity which provides excellent rock angle for precise handling car.

The level of the sports chassis, which lowers the body 10 millimeters (0.39 inches) and features perfectly tuned springs and dampers. The optional Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping system allows the driver to select one of two modes for dampers simply pressing the Sport button. Dynamic mode allows the Audi TT RS to hug the road, balanced Comfort provides a comfortable ride ideal for long journeys.

The sport version in the TT model line has 18-inch wheels fitted with 245/45 tires. Which are complemented by powerful ventilated disc brakes, which measure 370 millimeters (14.57 inches) in diameter in front and 310 millimeters (12.20 inches) at the rear. So the heat is dissipated rapidly in the first friction rings are perforated. They, in turn, are connected by pins hollow aluminum brake discs, which are black, surrounded by four-piston aluminum brake calipers, and RS logos.

The Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) can be turned off completely or partially. In Sport mode, the engine does not intervene to control the tension and therefore the brakes later involved in another way. In the second mode, the ESP is completely deactivated.

The Face of Power: The Exterior

At just 4.20 meters (13.78 feet) in length, the compact Audi TT RS tips strongly in the potential explosive from the first glance. The front spoiler reduces separator in a low, reminiscent of a racing car. The large air inlets and the square-shaped diamond inserts. The high gloss black grille with a single frame in aluminum plate and watch the TT RS will carry the same style.
